The Pade Dive Resort was born from a simple love—a love for the ocean. Our founder, who has been diving across Indonesia since the early 2000s, has always believed that the sea has a way of humbling and connecting people. Back then, traveling to remote dive destinations meant embracing limited accommodation, unpredictable logistics, and long journeys. Yet those challenges made every dive more meaningful and every discovery unforgettable.

After the 2004 tsunami in Banda Aceh, he asked himself a different question, what can I give back? With no background in hospitality, but with a strong desire to help rebuild and create opportunities for the Acehnese community, he opened The Pade Hotel Banda Aceh in 2008. The goal was clear to create jobs, to restore confidence, and to bring life back to a city recovering from loss. That became the beginning of “Pade,” means rice in the Acehnese language a name chosen for its deep cultural symbolism. Rice is a symbol of humility, abundance, and prosperity across Indonesia. As the rice plant grows taller, it bows lower, reminding us that true growth comes with grace and gratitude.

The name was inspired by the owner’s first property, The Pade Hotel Banda Aceh, which was surrounded by rice fields when it was built. Carrying this name forward to The Pade Dive Resort reflects the same spirit grounding ourselves in local culture, valuing community, and welcoming every guest with warmth and sincerity.

It was during those years, while managing the hotel, that he frequently visited Pulau Weh. Every dive reminded him why he fell in love with the ocean, the dramatic underwater landscapes, the volcanic formations, the clarity of the water, and the peaceful rhythm of island life. One day, standing on a quiet beach on the western side of the island, he saw mobula rays leaping from the water right in front of the shore. That moment became the seed of a dream.

The land where The Pade Dive Resort now stands was purchased not as a business decision, but as a personal promise to create a place where divers from around the world could gather, share stories, and fall in love with Pulau Weh the way he once did. The property already existed at the time, instead of rebuilding it from scratch, he chose to preserve and transform it thoughtfully, retaining much of the original structure in a commitment to sustainability while redesigning the facade and interiors to create a natural, calming retreat.

His hope for the resort has always been simple, to be a meeting ground for the global diving community, to offer a peaceful escape far from the noise of everyday life, to show the world the beauty of Aceh’s ocean, forests, and people.

Today, The Pade Dive Resort stands in a secluded cove, surrounded by hills and overlooking the open sea, exactly the kind of place where time slows down. Our team is made up of locals who have grown with us, many of whom have become dive guides, trained with care, and dedication. Empowering the local community is not just part of our mission, it is the heart of it.
